The Inspired Youth Singers spread some holiday cheer to residents at Lake Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rogers Park on Friday. The choral members, from kindergarten through high school, performed a repertoire of holiday favorites and Disney songs.
The choir is directed by Beth Struck Palmer, the founder and director of the Inspired Youth Tutoring Program. Palmer founded the tutoring program in 1985 to help children at Goudy Elementary School develop reading, writing and math skills. The group has earned recognition from numerous organizations, including the Chicago Bar Association.
Today, Inspired Youth serves the academic and cultural needs of 150 children from Uptown, Edgewater and Rogers Park, offering tutoring, a children’s choir and summer piano institute. Inspired Youth meets four days a week at Bezazian Branch Library at 1226 W. Ainslie and Saturday mornings at Margate Park Field House at 4912 N. Marine Drive.
Friday’s was a special performance honoring Eleanor Bilby, Inspired Youth’s long time choir director and a resident at Lake Shore. Bilby started the children’s choir in the late 1980s and directed a generation of children in singing and performing. The Inspired Youth Singers also debuted their rendition of “We Are The World,” featuring 16 solos.

The kids look sharp in their plaid vests, very festive, and the singing was fun. However, I was hoping for more cowbell.
What a happy and fun performance by long time neighborhood tutoring organization, “Inspired Youth”.
Thank you for spreading a Christmas message and thank you for helping children be the best they can be.
