Man Found Shot On Back Porch
A man suffering multiple gunshot wounds was found on the back porch of his apartment on the 2100 block of West Farragut around 7:50 p.m. Nov. 17. The victim was shot twice in the stomach and once in each arm. Witnesses saw a man in his late 20s to early 30s running westbound through the alley after the shots were heard. They could not provide police with a description. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition where he underwent surgery.
Edgewater Teen Beaten and Robbed
A 14-year-old boy was walking to his cousin’s house on the 5200 block of North California when he was punched and robbed of $100 at 7:40 a.m. Nov. 18. The victim told police that he was approached from behind by a 15-year-old boy who punched him in the face and knocked him to ground. While the 15-year-old was going through the victim’s pockets, three other boys estimated to be in their mid-teens rifled through his pockets, punching him the whole time. They grabbed $100 from the victim’s pocket and fled. The victim was able to indentify some of the teens.
Artificial Turf Damaged At Budlong School
While touring the school grounds, the principal of Budlong School, 2701 W. Foster, discovered a hole burned into the artificial turf sometime before 7:40 p.m. Nov. 14. A witness came forward and said he observed a 14-year-old boy and three other youths playing with matches and burning leaves on the artificial turf. Police were unable to locate the witness.
Battered on Sheridan
A victim was walking through the alley behind his apartment building on the 5200 block of North Sheridan Road when he was robbed around 10:38 a.m. Nov. 19. The victim told police that a man came up behind him and said, “Give me everything you got.” After handing over his cell phone, the man threw the victim to the ground and frisked him from behind. Finding nothing else, the man hit the victim on the head with a hard object.
Burglars Hit Grocery Store
Burglars robbed a grocery store on the 5400 block of North Broadway sometime before 8:20 a.m. Nov. 18. When the owner showed up to open the store, he discovered the air conditioner had been kicked in and large ladder left the air conditioner hole. About $150 was stolen from the register as well as $3,000 cash. Also taken was $400’s worth of cigars, ten books of Instant Lotto tickets valued at $60, about $200 in lighters, 80 cartons of cigarettes totaling $6,000 and DVDs valued at $150.
Scared Away By Dogs
A would-be burglar was scared away from a house on the 5900 block of North Hermitage by barking dogs around 10 p.m. Nov. 16. The victim told police that his dogs started barking when he heard a loud noise like someone trying to force open his patio door. When the dogs ran to the patio door, the burglar ran away and jumped over the fence in the backyard. The victim couldn’t get a good look at the burglar because it was dark outside.
Kenmore Break-in
Burglars looted a residence on the 5400 block of North Kenmore sometime before 3:10 p.m. Nov. 22. All the rooms were ransacked. The burglars hauled away a lap top, monitor, two TVs, a PlayStation, camera and jewelry.
23rd District
Juvenile Charged With Weapons Violation
While responding to gang fight and “shots fired” call in the area of Racine and Sunnyside, police observed a 16-year-old boy running through the Broncho Billy Playlot on the 4400 block of North Magnolia around 10:40 p.m. Nov. 14. When police saw the youth allegedly throw an object into the bushes near the front gate of the park, police immediately recovered a a gun and discovered it was loaded with eight rounds. The youth was taken into custody and read his rights, before being transferred to the 23rd Police District station for processing. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and his guardian was notified. The youth is a self-admitted gang member.
