On the one hand, I agree that it’s not particularly nice or helpful to call him an “animal.”

But do you understand that it’s a disaster that your brother was firing a gun in a city at 3:00 am? Whether your brother is a “bad person” or not, assuming he did this, he committed a very, very bad act. He became part of the incredibly violent class that causes death, paralysis and other lasting disabilities to many people in this city. In particular, most of the victims are also people like your brother. While nobody should call such people “animals”, it’s hardly surprising that people get extremely angry at such behavior, to the point where such insults shouldn’t be surprising. It’s hardly surprising that neighbors wouldn’t want such a person out of their neighborhood.

To come here without any sense of “he did a bad thing” and just tell us your brother “ain’t a bad person” is naive to the point of being irresponsibile. You need to face up to just how bad it is to do things like this. That’s the first step towards a more peaceful city. Making excuses, saying people who fire shots aren’t bad people is just about meaningless. It’s probably more destructive than constructive, and will make many people who read your comment roll their eyes and write you off as not worth the effort.

Best of luck to you and your brother. I hope he figures out how to be a calm, peaceful, normal member of society. I hope you can help him do that.

Great job and I hope to read here many more that deserve the same treatment. Their are far too many gangs and drugs being sold in our Uptown area and our Helen Shiller does nothing but to look out her office window and watch them doing it every day right in her view. They need more under-cover cops to get them all off the streets….

The article doesn’t say which side of Kenmore he lived on. Only one side of the 4900 block is in Shiller’s ward. So you don’t have any basis for what you wrote.

That block of Kenmore contains a boarding house that houses numerous felons. I bet I know just where this guy lived.

There are nine such SRO hotels withing a 4 block radius of Kenmore&Argyle. That’s how many I counted, and I probably didn’t find them all.

When a rep from SSA#34 asked our office what service she could render our business, I complained about the excessive number of seedy SRO hotels and was told that the residents needed places to live.

Schiller has always been notorious for being very tolerant of really low-quality, seedy housing in her ward. In fact, this is the kind of housing and the kind of population Schiller WANTS in her ward. She has never been any better or different.
