Rep. Harry Osterman (D-Chicago) is holding a Thanksgiving Food Drive to support Care For Real, Edgewater’s venerable food pantry that provides food, clothing, and other household items to hundreds of Edgewater residents each year.
In addition to assisting many neighborhood Edgewater families and seniors on fixed incomes during hard times, Care For Real has helped hundreds of refugees get started in their new lives in Chicago by providing much needed clothing, food and household items. Care For Real is funded and administered by the Edgewater Community Council.
“As we prepare to sit down with our families to celebrate Thanksgiving, we must remember that there are many families that are less fortunate than us” said Osterman. “The Thanksgiving Food Drive will hopefully bring our community together to help these families truly enjoy the holiday.”
Local schools, congregations, families and community members are encouraged to donate any and all food items – especially frozen turkeys and other frozen meats, fruits, vegetables, canned goods, breads, and other Thanksgiving dinner items to Osterman’s district office, located at 5535 N. Broadway St.
Donations can also be brought to Care For Real, located at 6044 N. Broadway, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to noon; or on Saturday’s from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“Care For Real has been helping Edgewater and its families in need for over 30 years,” Osterman said. “They provide a much needed service to hundreds of community members each year, providing these individuals with essentials that they otherwise could not afford. We are lucky to have such a service within our community.”
