Witnesses tell police that the men involved in Thursday afternoon’s shooting in Uptown were wearing masks, according to a 23rd Police District police report.
Police responding to a “shots fired” call around 2 p.m. Thursday and saw several alleged offenders in dark clothing an masks running westbound on Wilson from Broadway. A victim, believed to be the intended target, ran eastbound on Wilson.
A man in his late teens or early 20s wearing a White Sox baseball cap and a mask fired several shots across Broadway at a man standing near the Wilson-Broadway Currency Exchange before fleeing with three other men who were also wearing masks.
When police arrived on the scene, they found a second victim inside the currency exchange who had been cut by flying glass from bullets smashing through the north and west windows of the business. Police investigated the area but could not find the masked offenders of the intended target.
The Chicago Fire Department arrived to tend to the second victim inside the currency exchange, but he had already left and was found on the 1100 block of West Wilson. The man refused medical attention.
