A mid-afternoon shooting in Uptown sent pedestrians near the corner of Broadway and Wilson diving for cover, and bullets smashing into the windows of the Wilson-Broadway Currency Exchange at 4599 N. Broadway.
Twenty-third District police swarmed the scene around 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses said that four males began shooting across the Broadway and Wilson intersection with no regard for traffic or pedestrians at a person standing near the currency exchange. A mother and her three children dove for cover on the sidewalk, as bullets slammed into the currency exchange’s windows, witnesses said.
The four males fled eastbound on Wilson Avenue after the shooting. A witness told Lake Effect News that the shooters and invidual they were shooting at appeared to be gang members.
The currency exchange was temporarily closed as cops combed the crime scene. The manager of the currency exchange placed cardboard over the bullet holes and could be heard telling police that both windows would probably cost about $300.
The manager said the windows at the counter were bullet resistant, but the front windows of the currency exchange were not. Nobody was injured inside the currency exchange or on the street. A police officer standing in the currency exchange had to leave to tend to a gang fight on Sheridan and Wilson.
A reader provided these photos to Lake Effect News. The 23rd Distrcit could not be reached for comment, but Lake Effect News will continue to follow up on the shooting.

Our alderwomen won`t do anything. The police can only do so much. I once agin say bring the Guardian Angels into uptown and let people with a backbone help rid our area of crime. I have heard the residents always talking about these problems and as of yet it just seems to be getting worse. We need a experienced group of crime fighters with a great record of doing what we all want. Let`s get them in here now before it gets to late and the gangs take over all our streets……..They need the support of residents and businesses to set them up and I say it`s well worth it……..
yes the gaurdian angels will rid these gangs from uptown
